Gaze dynamics define how a person observes their surroundings. Until now, Horizons Optical had extensive knowledge about gaze dynamics in adults(2).

Thanks to the collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Milano Bicocca, for the first time, gaze dynamics in children were studied(1).

The study demonstrates that gaze behavior changes throughout life: in children, young people, and adults. The gaze dynamics of each age group were studied separately. Cross analysis revealed key differences in gaze dynamics. Specifically, monocular gaze angle data from over 300,000 patients highlighted how gaze behavior evolves across generations with clear and specific differences.

Based on monocular gaze angle trends and analyzing Gaze Dynamics (GD) maps at all distances, new patterns in near vision were also observed across all age groups. This new discovery highlights how single vision lens users also interact with the lower zone of a lens, unlocking a new level of customization

New Premium Single Vision Solution: Vanguard Dynamics

The Vanguard Dynamics lens is a premium aspheric single vision solution that offers a new degree of customization, using average dynamic gaze maps adapted to different age groups: children, young people, and young pre-presbyopes.

Additionally, it incorporates technology used in the latest generation of single vision lenses that addresses the requirements of users in the digital age: OptiMeshSV.

OptiMeshSV Technology

Until now, the compensation of oblique astigmatism in single vision lenses has been based on a single lens-eye model where each gaze direction was optimized considering a long-distance object. This approach simulates the lens performance in front of the user’s eye, improving the lens surface for all viewing angles, mainly for distance vision.

However, new patterns and trends were discovered in single vision lens users. In response to age range differences and the growing importance of near and intermediate zones according to our studies, we have incorporated not only age range differences but also the consideration of short-distance objects to further optimize lens performance.

The new OptiMeshSV(3). technology optimizes the lens for all distances and gaze directions, ensuring improved visual quality is tailored to each age group.

It is an advanced calculation for oblique astigmatism compensation because it:

  • Considers the direction of gaze.
  • Ensure optical power according to the prescription (RX), mainly for distance vision.
  • Minimizes unwanted distortion and oblique astigmatism in distance, intermediate, and near vision. This ensures that the perceived power is consistent in all gaze directions and distances.
  • Considers the position of wear and working distance in near vision. As expected, anatomical changes occur with age, requiring the consideration of different fitting parameters and near working distances for each age group. Leveraging advanced OptiMeshSV technology, Vanguard Dynamics integrates these factors to optimize the position of wear, ensuring a precise and personalized lens power alignment with the unique morphology of children, young people, and adults.

Vanguard Dynamics – Specifically Designed for the Gaze Patterns of Each Age Group:

  • Expanded field of vision
  • Enhanced clarity for smartphones and portable devices
  • Greater comfort for all-day use

The new lenses offer better overall clarity than previous ones, especially when focusing on near objects.

Conclusions

Vanguard Dynamics represents a significant innovation in the field of single vision lenses, offering a personalized and optimized solution for each age group. With more than 300,000 data points analyzed, this product promises to improve the visual experience of users throughout their lives.
